Squatter Claims

Squatter claims (or to use their legal title - adverse possession claims) arise in many different forms. To acquire squatters rights you essentially need to occupy the land for between 10 and 12 years without any interruption by the freeholder. For this to occur an unusual set of circumstances must have taken place.

The rules on adverse possession claims changed in October 2003, and so, depending on the circumstances of the case, a claim may be based on either the old or the new rules.

Whether you are a squatter trying to claim adverse possession or a freeholder defending such a claim, at Cowells Solictors we have the expertise to assist you.
